ANYmal X, the company’s quadruped robot, is now available for commercial orders from ANYbotics. More than 500 ANYmal X quadrupeds have already been reserved, according to the company, and ANYmal X’s initial deliveries are scheduled to start in the middle of 2023. ANYbotics made the announcement at the SPRINT Robotics World Conference for Inspection and Maintenance Robots.
In March 2022, ANYbotics unveiled ANYmal X, the most recent model in its line of quadruped robots. ANYmal X was made and got an ex-certification so it could be used in explosive and potentially dangerous places like chemical, oil, and gas operations.
Anymal X closes a critical technical gap by performing automated inspections in very complex environments, with stairs and narrow passages, and this in combination with Ex-zones. That’s novel!
“Said Peter Welter, BASF’s automation manager.”
Customers have had access to ANYmal through the business’s Early Adopter Program (EAP). ANYmal X has been used for inspections by EAP participants for a while. The multinational energy company PETRONAS is one of those clients.
PETRONAS and ANYbotics have been collaborating, and they are currently implementing ANYmal X use in PETRONAS’ facilities. In terms of their overall deployment strategy, which includes upstream platforms, terminals, and downstream plants, the companies are making good progress. At the moment, the robot is used on an offshore PETRONAS platform in Malaysia, where the companies are focusing on workflow integration and scaling up.
Iskandar Al-Thani Mahmood, the robotics manager at PETRONAS, stated that having ANYmal X Ex certified encourages innovation in R&D to go beyond conventional applications, improving the safety and efficiency of our operations.
ANYbotics has set up a program through its global network of manufacturing partners to increase production and meet future demand so that the first ANYmal Xs can be sent out by the middle of 2023, as planned.
ETH Zurich spin-off ANYbotics was established in 2016. ANYbotics raised $22.3 million in a Series A funding round in December 2020 so that it could scale up its solution for four-legged robots.
Boston Dynamics’ Spot competes with the company in the quadruped market. The most recent Spot update, which was released in August 2022, included, among other things, built-in data processing and review, an enhanced data collection pipeline, and a better operator experience. In June 2020, Spot made its debut on the market.
